Getting Started Questions
How do I know if an assessment or counselling is right for me?

If you or your child are struggling with learning, emotional, or behavioural challenges, an assessment or counselling can help provide clarity and guidance. During an initial consultation, we’ll help you determine which service is the best fit for your needs.

How do I choose the right psychologist from your team?

Selecting the right psychologist from our team depends on your individual needs and preferences. Each of our psychologists specializes in different areas, such as anxiety, ADHD, autism, and family support, so it’s important to choose someone who aligns with your goals. We typically schedule clients for their first appointment within two weeks, depending on their availability. For assessments, the entire process is usually completed within 4 to 6 weeks after the initial intake session, which includes testing, report preparation, and feedback.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

For assessments, bring any relevant reports from schools, medical providers, or previous evaluations. For counseling sessions, no specific items are needed, but feel free to bring any questions or concerns you’d like to discuss.

Assessment-Specific Questions
What is a psychological assessment?

A psychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that looks at cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. It involves standardized tests, interviews, and observations to help diagnose learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism, and other mental health concerns.

How long does an assessment take?

Most assessments take 12 to 14 hours in total, which includes initial consultations, testing sessions, and time for report writing. Depending on the type of assessment, testing is typically completed over one or more sessions.

When will I receive the results of my assessment?

You will typically receive a detailed report within 2 to 4 weeks after the final assessment session. This report will include test scores, explanations of the results, and personalized recommendations for next steps.

Do you provide recommendations after the assessment?

Yes, all of our assessments include specific, actionable recommendations. These may involve educational accommodations, therapy suggestions, behavior management strategies, or referrals to other professionals.

Can you explain the different types of assessments you offer?
  • Psycho-Educational Assessments evaluate learning disabilities and cognitive abilities.

  • ADHD Assessments look at attention, focus, and executive functioning.

  • ASD Assessments evaluate social communication and behavior patterns.

  • Mental Health Assessments focus on diagnosing anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges.

  • PDD Funding Assessments help determine eligibility for developmental support services.

  • Giftedness Assessments measure cognitive potential and academic strengths.

How do I prepare for an assessment?

You’ll receive instructions prior to the assessment, but it’s generally helpful to bring any relevant medical, school, or psychological reports. Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep before the assessment and arrives ready to focus.

Can my child’s school receive a copy of the assessment report?

Yes, with your written consent, we can send a copy of the assessment report to your child’s school or other relevant professionals to help implement recommendations.

The frequency of sessions depends on your needs. Most clients benefit from weekly or bi-weekly sessions, though we’ll work with you to determine the best schedule for your situation.
